ASR Detection & Remediation
Is your pool affected by "Pool Cancer"? ASR (Alkali-Silica Reaction) or “Pool Cancer,” as it is more commonly known, is a volatile chemical reaction that occurs between the alkali contained in cement and its counterpart, aggregate. When water is added to the cement and aggregate expansive gels begin to form. These gels begin to expand and the structural integrity of the concrete becomes substantially compromised. Catastrophic damage can be done to the concrete, including surface “spider web” cracking, internal cracking, masonry and tile damage, and overall structural failure.
